Softball Recap: Sun Valley Starts Season with Victory at Home

Sun Valley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Gretchen Daniel (2028) made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits. Daniel (2028) was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Moriah Garcia (2026) was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Kendall Smith (2026), who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Metrolina Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Sun Valley will square off against East Mecklenburg at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Metrolina Christian Academy, they will be playing at home against Providence Day at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
