The South Border co-op [Wishek/Ashley] Mustangs couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 65-26 defeat at the hands of Oakes on Thursday. South Border co-op [Wishek/Ashley] has not had much luck with Oakes recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Leading Oakes to victory were Brianna Schmitz and Lily Thorpe. Schmitz scored 14 points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds, while Thorpe scored 21 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Sundby, who scored 7 points along with 6 rebounds.
South Border co-op [Wishek/Ashley]'s defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Oakes, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Border co-op [Wishek/Ashley] will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Central at 6:30 p.m. on December 15th. As for Oakes, they will head out on the road to face off against Medina/Pingree-Buchanan at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
