Hazel Green and Sparkman are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Senators at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hazel Green 3.6, Sparkman 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Hazel Green fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Buckhorn on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bucks by a score of 7-6. It was the first time this season that the Trojans let down their fans at home.
Meanwhile, Sparkman entered their tilt with Grissom on Tuesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They blew past the Tigers 13-3. The Senators not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st.
Eden Parker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Parker was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 games.
In other batting news, Sparkman got a massive performance out of Laila Watkins, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Shariah Hespeth was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-1.
Sparkman hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matches.
Sparkman pushed their record up to 31-9-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Hazel Green, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 19-11.
Hazel Green came up short against Sparkman in their previous meeting back in February, falling 13-8. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
