Softball Recap: Powell Wins Going Away Against Karns

Powell was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Karns on Monday. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Beavers. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

Langston Coggins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Madison Crawley was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Jaylan Heatherly, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Powell has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Karns, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Powell is taking a road trip to face off against West at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Karns, they will welcome Knoxville Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
