The Seymour Owls will head out on the road to challenge the Southwestern Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Seymour is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Seymour is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Henryville on Monday. The Owls have beaten the Hornets the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hornets has come to flipping the script.
Jackson Trueblood was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Seymour let Mack Longmeier and Tylan Nicholson run wild. Longmeier went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run, while Nicholson went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Nicholson has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Caydin Bishop, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Seymour was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henryville only posted a batting average of .190.
Meanwhile, Southwestern entered their tilt with Switzerland County on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They never let the Pacers get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. That's two games straight that the Rebels have won by exactly five runs.
The result came thanks to Tryson Warren's shutout, as he gave up just a hit.
At the plate, Jeter Chatham was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Andrew Varble was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Southwestern's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Seymour, their record is now 16-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Seymour has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southwestern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Seymour took their victory against Southwestern in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 15-2 score. Do the Owls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
