1A District 3 recap October 29, 2013
LaSalle extended the longest winning streak in 1A District 3 this week by beating Montgomery, 31-14. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
LaSalle made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,957 from 8,824. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 31-14 victory over the Tigers last week.
The Tigers' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cole Hendrix threw for 85 and 1 touchdown and Brandon Johnson had 34 yards receiving. On the ground T'kiel Smith chipped in 157 yards. Morgan Barbo helped LaSalle's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 23 yards.
Shaverick Williams made the biggest impact on defense this week as Block bested Northwood. The 6-foot-0 freshman grabbed 1 interception.
Smith provided a threat through the air and on the ground as LaSalle defeated Montgomery. Smith's key target this week was Johnson, who caught 2 passes for 34 yards.
Smith was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 157 yards on 15 carries as the Tigers bested Brian Williams' team. Teammate Logan Wilson added to the ground attack by rushing for 145 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Hendrix and Wilson, LaSalle has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Hendrix is tops in the league in passing with 1,319 yards, while Wilson has rushed for 882 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is the Tigers' Bijon Washington, with 510 yards on 18 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when St. Mary takes on the Tigers. The Tigers are in third place, while LaSalle is in first place.
The Bears led 1A District 3 in scoring this week after putting up 40 points on the Gators. Raymond Plummer ran for 153 yards in the win.
