Softball Recap: Decatur Wins Going Away Against Castleberry

Decatur barely beat Castleberry the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 11-5 win on Monday. Considering the Eagles have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexa Beeson and Alivia Creasser made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Beeson struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Creasser pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Beeson scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Creasser scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, Creasser posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Hallie Washburn was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Style Brazile, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Decatur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.

Decatur has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Castleberry, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-17-1.

Coincidentally, Decatur and Castleberry will both be playing Eagle Mountain the next time they take the field. The Lions will host the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Eagles will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
