Basketball Recap: Haven Anthony's Big Game Can't Quite Lead HEARTS for Jesus Christ over Christian Community

After flying high against Heritage Classical Academy last Friday, HEARTS for Jesus Christ came back down to earth. The HEARTS for Jesus Christ Guardians lost 53-30 to the Christian Community Warriors on Tuesday. The contest marked the Guardians' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

HEARTS for Jesus Christ's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Haven Anthony, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 13 points and four steals. Anthony has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayna Kawczak, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Christian Community was led to victory by Lyla Miller and Anna Blumfeldt. Miller almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine steals, while Blumfeldt put up 23 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Miller a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Brooke Russo, who had six points.

HEARTS for Jesus Christ's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Christian Community, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.

HEARTS for Jesus Christ didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 31-25 defeat against First Baptist Christian on the 19th. Christian Community and Central Christian will compete for holiday cheer at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Central Christian will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Christian Community surely won't give up without a fight.
