Forest Hills Northern is on a five-game streak of home wins, while East Grand Rapids is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Huskies will host the Pioneers at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Saturday, Forest Hills Northern needed a bit of extra time to put away Traverse City Central. They had just enough and edged out the Trojans 7-6.

The team relied heavily on Justin St. Antoine, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Forest Hills Northern's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Mateo Rodriguez, who earned one run and three stolen bases.
Five must be East Grand Rapids' lucky number: they beat Kenowa Hills with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Pioneers won by a run and slipped past the Knights 5-4.
Carter Vriesenga looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Josh McCune was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Luke VanGessel was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Forest Hills Northern now has a winning record of 9-8. As for East Grand Rapids, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Forest Hills Northern has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like East Grand Rapids struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Forest Hills Northern might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from East Grand Rapids in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Will the Huskies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
