Watauga barely beat Southwestern Randolph the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pioneers put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 3-0 victory on Wednesday. That's more bragging rights for the Pioneers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Watauga never let Southwestern Randolph on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-5, 25-20, 25-22.

Emma Pastusic paced Watauga's offense, picking up 19 kills. Pastusic got some help from Lainey Gragg and her 44 assists. Ashlyn Smith controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Watauga now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Southwestern Randolph, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Watauga will take on North Iredell at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Southwestern Randolph, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-2 win against North Stanly on the 21st.
