It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Liberty Hawks had no problem doing just that on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 win over Firebaugh. That's another feather in the cap for Liberty, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
The critical scores for Liberty came from Talan Lamattina and Dolan Dilbeck.
Firebaugh's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Fernandez, who gained 140 total yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Arren Alaniz, who picked up 61 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Firebaugh, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Liberty's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Chavez at 7:00 p.m. on November 9th. Firebaugh does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
