The Questa Wildcats will challenge the Penasco Panthers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Questa will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Questa's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over McCurdy. While the Wildcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ricardo Leon Jr. was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Diego C. Ortega also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Penasco hadn't done well against Mora recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Rangers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since March 20th.
Xzavier Montoya spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Archuleta, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Penasco is 3-1 when Archuleta posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Noll, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI.
Questa's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Penasco, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Questa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Penasco struggles in that department as they've averaged .439. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Questa got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Penasco by a conclusive 15-3 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
