Central received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 61-43 to South Mountain. Central has struggled against South Mountain recently, as their match on Thursday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Central still got an impressive performance from Lia Sims, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 48.8% of Central's points, marking the 23rd time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Shakeira Mosley was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Even though they lost, Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Mountain only pulled down an offensive rebound.
South Mountain's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Da'via Wesley, who scored 14 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wesley has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Estrella Becerra, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Central's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for South Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central will take on Sierra Linda at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra Linda is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for South Mountain, they will play host again and welcome Fairfax, where tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Fairfax's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests.
