Benedictine has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Benedictine Cadets and the Wayne County Yellow Jackets will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wayne County took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Benedictine, who comes in off a win.
On Saturday, Benedictine strolled past Beach with points to spare, taking the game 50-32.
Benedictine relied on the efforts of LaDon Bryant, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds, and Caleb Jones, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bryant has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ejay Washington, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Wayne County came up short against Liberty County on Saturday and fell 54-46. While losing is never fun, Wayne County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Liberty County is ranked 103rd).
Benedictine's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.1 points per game. As for Wayne County, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Benedictine against Wayne County when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 66-29 win. Will Benedictine repeat their success, or does Wayne County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
