Cape Fear's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let the Douglas Byrd Eagles get on the board and left with a 26-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Allie Dawson and McKinley Kolasa made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Dawson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kolasa pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Dawson a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At bat, Dawson fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4, while Kolasa went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Dawson is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played.
In other pitching news, Karalina Tomasic looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Addie Davis was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kloe Watts, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Cape Fear was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .939. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Cape Fear's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.8 runs over those games. As for Douglas Byrd, they are on a 30-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.
Cape Fear has already played their next contest, a 17-5 win against Lee County on the 9th. As for Douglas Byrd, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 22-0 defeat against Lumberton on the 10th.
