Basketball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is South Guilford Homeschool's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

South Guilford HomeSchool proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 36) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 56-54 victory from a begrudging Cougars squad. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 64-45 last Thursday.

South Guilford HomeSchool got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Garrett Hughes out in front who went 7 of 10 on his way to 16 points and six assists. What's more, Hughes also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Nate Martin, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Dylan Butcher and Heath Clark certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Butcher posted 19 points, while Clark had 18 points. The game was Butcher's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Schuyler, who put up six points.

South Guilford HomeSchool has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.9 points per game. As for Surry HomeSchool, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

South Guilford HomeSchool didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-39 victory against NC H on the 21st. As for Surry HomeSchool, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Dayspring Christian Academy on January 4, 2025.
