The Wesclin Warriors will challenge the Marquette Catholic Explorers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Wesclin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Wesclin took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Vandalia as they made off with an 11-2 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Warriors needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Landon Jacobsen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Jacobsen was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Wesclin got a massive performance out of Layne Hays, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Hays has become a key player for the Warriors: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Ayden Peterson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Wesclin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Staunton hit Marquette Catholic with a four-run seventh inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Explorers took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The Explorers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Marquette Catholic also got a good showing from Cohen Green, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits. Green has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Robert Roentz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Joe Stephan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Wesclin's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-12. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Marquette Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.
