The Rockingham County Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 82-59 walloping at the hands of Ben L. Smith. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Rockingham County in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost seven in a row.
Rockingham County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nicholas Rumbley, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. Rumbley has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 11 times he's played. Dalton Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven assists and two steals.
Rockingham County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Ben L. Smith, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rockingham County will challenge the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Eastern Guilford has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29. As for Ben L. Smith, they will head out on the road to take on the Panthers at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Dudley is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
