Basketball Recap: Mason Thear Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Cardinal O'hara

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Devon Prep ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They snuck past the Cardinal O'Hara Lions with a 61-57 win. Given the Tide's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while the Lions are ranked 49th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Devon Prep got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mason Thear out in front who went 5 for 8 en route to 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most boards Thear has posted since back in February of 2024. Reece Craft was another key player, going 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Devon Prep and bumps their season record up to 13-3. As for Cardinal O'Hara, they dropped their record down to 10-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Devon Prep will take on Archbishop Ryan at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Devon Prep's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 matchups. As for Cardinal O'Hara, they will face off against Conwell-Egan Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cardinal O'Hara is facing Conwell-Egan Catholic at the right time seeing as Conwell-Egan Catholic is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
