The Carmel Greyhounds will take on the Avon Orioles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Carmel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Carmel barely beat Pendleton Heights the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Greyhounds were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Arabians on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Greyhounds sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Carmel got a great performance from Chelsea Bennett as she pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. Bennett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Ellie Goddard was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jayden Kleiner, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two doubles.
Meanwhile, Avon came up short against Center Grove on Thursday and fell 7-3. The matchup marked the Orioles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Ada Dittemore made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. She also scored a run, marking her first of the season. Willow Harvey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Avon dropped their record down to 6-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those road losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Carmel, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Carmel hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Carmel might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Avon in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Greyhounds have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
