Duncan hasn't had much luck against St. David recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildkats will host the Tigers at 3:45 p.m. Duncan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Duncan and Baboquivari, and Baboquivari kept the tradition alive. The Wildkats fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 10-9 on Friday.
Dayton Penry made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Joe Nandino was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, St. David had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Lobos get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory.
Grant Haymore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Chase Pacheco was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of St. David's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Brogan, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
St. David always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Duncan's defeat dropped their record down to 13-5. As for St. David, their win bumped their record up to 10-8-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Duncan has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.2 hits per game. However, it's not like St. David struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Duncan might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from St. David when the teams last played on April 9th. Will the Wildkats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
