Eldorado is 0-10 against Edwards County since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Lions at 4:30 p.m.
Eldorado is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Crab Orchard.
Nolan Rilying and Nelson Oglesby did some serious damage despite the final result: Rilying went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Oglesby got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI. That double marked the first that Rilying has hit this season. Bowen Schultz was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Edwards County had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Jex Schnepper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cash Conner was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan Prather, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Edwards County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Edwards County pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Eldorado, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.
Eldorado suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Edwards County in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
