Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
David Ojiegbe of
St. John's is the 2022 MaxPreps District of Columbia High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound senior defensive end/outside linebacker led the Cadets to an 8-4 record and their second consecutive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship, becoming the first team to repeat since DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) won four in a row from 2013-16.
Ojiegbe was dominant in a 7-3 win over DeMatha in the title game operating against two offensive tackles committed to Power 5 college programs.
Committed to Clemson, Ojiegbe is regarded as the No. 2 prospect in the Class of 2023 from the District of Columbia. He landed more than 30 scholarship offers from FBS schools.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released January 10.
