Carmel and Everett Alvarez are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Padres are taking a road trip to face off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Carmel has five straight wins, Everett Alvarez has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Carmel's victory against King City wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Padres had just enough and edged out the Mustangs 4-3 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Padres have posted since March 12th.
Olivia Tringali spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Carmel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Everett Alvarez suffered their closest defeat since April 2, 2025 last Thursday. They fell just short of King City by a score of 7-5.
Amaris Perez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. Kamyla Cruz also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

Everett Alvarez's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carmel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. It's a different story for Everett Alvarez, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Carmel's hitters?
Carmel couldn't quite get it done against Everett Alvarez in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Padres avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
