The Mater Dei Monarchs entered their tilt with the Santa Margarita Eagles with 12 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 13. Mater Dei snuck past Santa Margarita with a 57-52 victory on Wednesday. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Mater Dei has scored all year.
Mater Dei found their leader in underclassman Brannon Martinsen, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Martinsen is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Verna, who scored ten points.
Mater Dei pushed their record up to 20-1 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home. As for Santa Margarita, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mater Dei will take on Orange Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Orange Lutheran will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Mater Dei is ranked third). As for Santa Margarita, they will be playing at home against Servite at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
