Northern Nash hasn't had much luck against Franklinton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Northern Nash Knights will face off against the Franklinton Red Rams at 6:00 p.m. Northern Nash is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
Northern Nash took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Nash Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Northern Nash sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Nash Central on Thursday.
Kasey Burden and Emily Clay were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Burden pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Clay tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Burden scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Clay scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kailey Burden, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Emma Hunt, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Northern Nash was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nash Central only posted a batting average of .037.
While Franklinton didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 12-3 margin over Sanderson on Thursday. Considering the Red Rams have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Madison Lada made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Lada was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Franklinton let Leah Taylor and Bailey Jo Helton run wild. Taylor scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Helton went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Taylor a new career-high. Kaylei Main was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Franklinton's record now sits at 5-2. As for Northern Nash, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-3.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Northern Nash has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .543. However, it's not like Franklinton struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northern Nash took their victory against Franklinton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2. Does Northern Nash have another victory up their sleeve, or will Franklinton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
