Loomis is 9-1 against the Wildcats since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Loomis Wolves will head out on the road to take on the Axtell Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Loomis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Loomis came up short against the Spartans and fell 54-43. Loomis has struggled against the Spartans recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ben Trompke, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cale Nelson, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Axtell unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 61-45 to Sumner-Eddyville-Miller. Axtell found out winning isn't easy when your three-point shooting is a whole 28% worse than the opposition.
Axtell's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ethan Morgan, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks, and Jacob Halvorsen who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Halvorsen hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyton Cole, who scored eight points.
Loomis' record now sits at 10-8. Axtell's record now sits at 11-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Loomis have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Axtell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Loomis was able to grind out a solid victory over the Wildcats in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 56-46. Does Loomis have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
