Softball Game Preview: Oakland Oakers vs. Elkton Elks

The Oakland Oakers will venture away from home to face off against the Elkton Elks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Oakland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.

Oakland will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Friday, then bounced right back against Myrtle Point on Monday. The Oakers put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 13-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Oakers, who have now won six matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Oakland let Teagan Fauver and Gwen Field run wild. Fauver went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Field went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave Field a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsie Pfaff, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Elkton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 18-8 to Lowell.

Amelia Holloway was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Neacye Gould also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Oakland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Elkton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.

Oakland took their victory against Elkton when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Oakers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
