Apopka's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Edgewater 15-0. Considering the Blue Darters have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Millspaugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Riley Ford was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Hazel Bowman, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2.
Apopka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .769. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .343 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Olympia can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Cypress Creek.
Nellie Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sasha Do, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jemila Weeks, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Apopka's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Olympia, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Olympia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Apopka has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .557. It's a different story for Olympia, though, as they've only averaged .357. Will they be able to contain Apopka's hitters?
