Carlsbad hasn't had much luck against Hobbs recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. Hobbs took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Carlsbad, who comes in off a win.
Carlsbad will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Roswell, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cavemen/Cavegirls skirted past the Coyotes 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cavemen/Cavegirls have posted since October 1, 2024.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (104-101) Carlsbad actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 16-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-12.
Meanwhile, Hobbs came up short against Clovis on Thursday, falling 3-0.
Hobbs was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-18.
Carlsbad's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Hobbs, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.
Carlsbad was able to grind out a solid win over Hobbs in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavemen/Cavegirls since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
