Baseball Recap: Independence Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Independence entered their tilt with Charleston on Tuesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won five contests by more than 14 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Christian Hinson made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Independence got a massive performance out of Dixon Ashe, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Ashe a new career-high. Kaleb Umberger was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .526 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Independence's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Charleston, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Coming up, Independence will square off against Vardaman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Charleston, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on J.Z. George at 4:00 p.m. on March 16.
