Football Recap: Pickens Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Pickens strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They took down the Gilmer Bobcats 38-24. For the Dragons, this counts as revenge for the 35-27 victory the Bobcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Ike Wyngaard went supernova, rushing for 197 yards and three scores on only seven carries. Ezra Faber also helped with two TDs in total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pickens was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 230 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 176 rushing yards in six consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Pickens' win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Gilmer, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Pickens and Gilmer will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Dragons see the field they'll take on White County at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th. As for Gilmer, their break will end when they face Westminster at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th.
