Englewood has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Bennett Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Englewood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Englewood beat DSST: Montview 26-22.
Jaliyah Mora was Englewood's leading scorer, having posted 15 points.
Julia Moore-Sanders held things down on the boards with 14 rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Meanwhile, Bennett stacked a fifth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 68-9 win over Lake County at home. With Bennett ahead 40-5 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Lily Venneberg was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 24 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. Venneberg is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jessica Venneberg, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Englewood's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-8. As for Bennett, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Englewood have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Bennett, though, as they've been averaging only 29.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Englewood didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Bennett in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 51-45 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Englewood since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
