Softball Recap: St. Mary's Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

St. Mary waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Sahuaro Cougars as they made off with an 11-1 victory. While the Knights didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meredith Schager spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.

At the plate, St. Mary's got a massive performance out of Giahni Ruiz, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Marianna Hernandez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triples of the season.

St. Mary's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sahuaro only posted a batting average of .167.

St. Mary's record now sits at 5-2. As for Sahuaro, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Combs at 3:45 p.m. on March 19th. As for Sahuaro, they will head out to challenge Pueblo at 4:00 p.m. on March 17th. Pueblo has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something Sahuaro will no doubt try to take advantage of.
