The Jeffersonville Red Devils will be taking part in a tournament against the Homestead Spartans at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Jeffersonville sitting on four straight wins and Homestead on nine.
On Thursday, Jeffersonville earned a 3-1 victory over Scottsburg.
The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-7, 22-25, 25-9.
Jeffersonville can attribute much of their success to Malachi Crowder, who had nine digs and four aces, and James Medina, who had six aces. That's the most aces Crowder has posted over his last ten contests. Tre'Sean Simpson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
They weren't the only good server: Jeffersonville was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 19 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Homestead beat Fort Wayne South Side 3-1 on Thursday.
In the three sets Homestead was on fire: they won each by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-13, 17-25, 25-10, 25-14.
Jeffersonville's record is now 14-4. As for Homestead, their record now sits at 14-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's match: Jeffersonville has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Homestead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Jeffersonville couldn't quite get it done against Homestead in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
