After two games on the road, Lakewood is heading back home. They will take on the Bellingham Bayhawks at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Lakewood suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2023 on Friday. They were dealt a 64-28 defeat at the hands of Burlington-Edison. Lakewood has not had much luck with Burlington-Edison recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite their loss, Lakewood saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. MaryJo Morales, who scored six points along with nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. That's the first time this season that Morales pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of EMMA TOCCO, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Bellingham's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 55-24 loss at the hands of Anacortes. While losing is never fun, Bellingham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while Anacortes is ranked 105th).
Lakewood now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Bellingham, they bumped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Lakewood skirted past Bellingham 37-34 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Does Lakewood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bellingham turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
