The matchup between the Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers and the Creede Miners on Saturday hardly resembled the 34-14 effort from their previous meeting. Cripple Creek-Victor was beaten by Creede 71-38. Cripple Creek-Victor just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Cripple Creek-Victor lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mackenzie Pappas, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pappas has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Rylee May, who scored ten points.
Creede's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jasmin Laing, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Laing pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Fairchild, who almost dropped a triple-double on 27 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists.
Cripple Creek-Victor has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Creede, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cripple Creek-Victor will take on Pikes Peak Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pikes Peak Christian's defense has only allowed 26.7 points per game this season, so Cripple Creek-Victor's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Creede, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sierra Grande at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Sierra Grande is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
