The Calexico Mission RoadRunners's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 60-48 to Julian. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Calexico Mission of the 50-40 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.
Despite the loss, Calexico Mission saw an underclassman step up: Leonardo Longino scored 29 points. That was a full 60.4% of Calexico Mission's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Leading Julian to victory were Max Cruz and Pete Vanderstaay. Cruz scored 14 points, while Vanderstaay scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cruz has scored all season. Kenny Morytko was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Calexico Mission's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Julian, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calexico Mission will take on Borrego Springs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Julian, they will head out on the road to take on Warner at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Warner focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
