The Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Portales by a score of 57-55. While losing is never fun, Pojoaque Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Portales is ranked fifth).
Pojoaque Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nick Manzanares, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Joziah Salazar, who scored ten points.
Pojoaque Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Portales, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pojoaque Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Bernalillo at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Portales will be home for the holidays to greet Dulce at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
