Harvard had lost ten straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-18 to make it 11. They fell just short of the Plano Reapers by a score of 11-10. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Reapers earlier this season, when they won 1-0.
Eltan Powles made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Bennett, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
As for Plano, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-18 record. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the game before.
On Plano's side, Quentin Santoria made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Plano is 4-2 when Santoria allows one or fewer hits, but 4-16 otherwise. Santoria was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jason Phillips was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Amari Bryant was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Looking ahead, Harvard will head out on the road to challenge Zion-Benton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Zee-Bees have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.88 runs per game on average), something the Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Plano, they will host Newark at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Reapers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Norsemen have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
