Aledo extended their postseason success on Friday against Lubbock-Cooper. They enjoyed a cozy 48-31 victory over the Pirates. Given Aledo's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Lubbock-Cooper is ranked 81st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aledo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ray Guillory led the charge by rushing for 198 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Guillory really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run. Hejny was another key contributor, rushing for 115 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Red Oak beat Amarillo 35-28 on Saturday. 35 seems to be a good number for Red Oak as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Chris Martinez jr was his usual excellent self, rushing for 128 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, while also throwing for 185 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Robinson, who picked up 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Aledo's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34 points. As for Red Oak, their victory bumped their record up to 12-0.
Everything went Aledo's way against Red Oak when the teams last played back in November of 2019 as Aledo made off with a 34-14 victory. Does Aledo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Red Oak turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
