Irmo took a 32-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westwood. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Irmo in their matchups with Westwood: they've now lost five in a row.
Irmo lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Abby Livingston, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Jayla Anderson was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Leading Westwood to victory were Makiah Thompson and Aneya Britt. Thompson scored 12 points along with four steals, while Britt dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Britt hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games.
Irmo's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-8. As for Westwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Irmo will head out on the road to square off against Lugoff-Elgin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lugoff-Elgin has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 29. As for Westwood, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Richland Northeast at 6:00 p.m. Richland Northeast will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Westwood is ranked 34th).
