Templeton has gone 8-2 against Morro Bay recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Pirates at 7:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Templeton has five straight wins, Morro Bay has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Templeton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Santa Maria to the tune of 56-0 on Friday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 11, 2019, but that streak is no more.
Templeton had a senior duo take command as Armando Soto rushed for 84 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries and Tyler Cunningham gained 136 total yards and two touchdowns. Another big playmaker for the Eagles was Colby Sims, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Templeton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 327 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Templeton, racking up 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Sims, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Morro Bay came up short against Cabrillo on Friday and fell 28-21.
Templeton will have to contain Sands Dougherty as he made an impact in Morro Bay's last game. He threw for 325 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 86.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 90 yards and one score. Dougherty's passing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 325 passing yards. Anthony Campanario was Dougherty's top target, picking up 102 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Morro Bay's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Radden Batalla was especially locked on to Cabrillo's QB and sacked him twice.
Templeton's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Morro Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Templeton has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 155.2 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Morro Bay has preferred to attack from the air: they average 358.5 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
