The Carterville Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Massac County Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Carterville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.3 runs per game this season.

Carterville's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Tolono Unity hitters got past them. The Lions fell 11-6 to the Rockets on Saturday. The Lions have struggled against the Rockets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Parker Poole made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Alex Lyell, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Massac County lost 8-2 to Murphysboro on Saturday. The game marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Massac County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Jennings, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Having lost for the first time this season, Massac County fell to 9-1. As for Carterville, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Carterville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Massac County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Carterville came up short against Massac County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 8-3. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
