Basketball Recap: Broome Falls Despite Big Games from Kourtney Wofford and Dakota Mitchell

If Broome was riding high fresh off their 74-21 takedown of Greer Middle College last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The match between the Broome Centurions and the Chapman Panthers didn't end well, with the Broome Centurions falling 56-38. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Centurions of the 47-32 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Broome's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dakota Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Kourtney Wofford, who posted 12 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. Mitchell has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 19 times she's played. Layla Mckellar also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Broome smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Leading Chapman to victory were Annastyn Smith and Krislyn Wilder. Smith went 6 of 11 en route to 17 points and seven boards, while Wilder almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Rylan Ivey, who earned ten points.

Broome's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Chapman, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-9.

Broome will face off against Landrum at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Landrum has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Chapman, they are taking a road trip to face off against Greer Middle College at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chapman is facing Greer Middle College at the right time seeing as Greer Middle College is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
