Grand Valley was handed a three-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Windham on Wednesday. Grand Valley took their game at home with ease, bagging a 54-26 victory over Windham. Given Grand Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while Windham is ranked 600th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, St. John beat Mathews 44-34 on Saturday. 44 seems to be a good number for St. John as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
St. John's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mickey Zheng, who scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Zheng has scored at least a third of St. John's points. Another player making a difference was alyssa cevera, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.
Grand Valley's win bumped their record up to 15-6. As for St. John, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Grand Valley strolled past St. John in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a score of 58-41. Will Grand Valley repeat their success, or does St. John have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
