The El Camino Wildcats will take on the Santana Sultans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Camino is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
El Camino took a 16-run defeat the last time they faced off against Calexico, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Bulldogs on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 2, 2024.
Bella Mendoza was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Makayla Boone was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
El Camino hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Santana earned an 8-3 win over El Capitan on Thursday.
Kaitlyn Ruckle and Hailee Powell did most of the damage at the plate: Ruckle went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Powell went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
El Camino has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Santana, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-8.
El Camino's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Santana, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will El Camino continue to outrun the ball?
El Camino couldn't quite finish off Santana when the teams last played back in March of 2023 and fell 8-6. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
