In other pitching news, Jacob Ross looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025.
Back at the plate, Blake Bright was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was JT Riddick, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Gates County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hertford County only posted an OBP of .375.
Gates County now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Bear Grass Charter, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 2-1.
Bear Grass Charter got the 'W' in their previous matchup on Tuesday against Gates County by a conclusive 13-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the - since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
