Wynford is 1-8 against Upper Sandusky since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Royals will welcome the Rams at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wynford 3.4, Upper Sandusky 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Saturday, Wynford came up short against Galion and fell 7-3.
Gage Massey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Wes Prenger, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Upper Sandusky had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Chieftains, sneaking past 6-4.
Justin Heilman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Heilman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaleb Francis, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Francis has posted since back in April of 2024.
Upper Sandusky pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Wynford, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wynford has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Upper Sandusky struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wynford came out on top in a nail-biter against Upper Sandusky in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Royals repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
