The Shadle Park Highlanders will venture away from home to face off against the Cheney Blackhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shadle Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Shadle Park had taken Mead down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Highlanders fell 9-6 to the Panthers. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Madi Keon was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Annabelle Moreno, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Cheney never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Gonzaga Prep on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over the Bullpups. The Blackhawks haven't had any issues with the Bullpups recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Kieli Current and Maddy Hurley were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Current tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hurley struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. At the plate, Current went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Hurley went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That run marked the first that Current has scored this season.
In other batting news, Allie Halverson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Ashcroft, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Cheney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Shadle Park's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Cheney, their record now sits at 5-10.
Everything went Shadle Park's way against Cheney when the teams last played back in March, as Shadle Park made off with a 24-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Highlanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
